How to choose a final-year project that impresses examiners
A great final-year project solves a real problem, uses the right technology and is something you can confidently explain in your viva. Here is a simple guide.
Your final-year project is one of the best chances to show what you can build. A good choice can help in your viva, your CV and even job interviews.
1. Solve a real problem
Examiners love projects that solve something real — attendance tracking, appointment booking, inventory, or a small e-commerce store. Real problems are also easier to explain.
2. Pick technology you can explain
Choose a stack you understand, such as PHP & MySQL, Python & Django, Java or Android. It is better to fully understand a simple project than to present a complex one you can't explain.
3. Plan your documentation early
- Synopsis and problem statement
- System design and diagrams
- Screenshots and testing
- Conclusion and future scope
4. Prepare for the viva
Practise explaining your project flow, database design and main features. Expect questions like "Why did you choose this technology?" and "What would you improve?".
Understanding every line of your project is what really impresses examiners.
